Bora Bora

It is an island in the leeward group of the society islands famous for its aqua-centric luxury resorts. To its north is the Bora Bora Airport on Motu Mete . It is surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef. In the center of the island are the remnants of an extinct volcano rising to two peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu.

Although the main languages spoken are French and Tahitian, the people in contact with tourists have knowledge of English too. It is an overseas collectivity of France in the pacific. After the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan, the United States entered World War II. The United States had Bora Bora as a south pacific military base. Had mounted seven massive cannons at strategic points and used it as a base for naval , oil supply depot etc with more than 5000 men and 9 ship the Bobcat operation was started vigorously by the United States. The island saw no combat as the American presence over there became uncontested over the course of war. Altho…
